Updates in UVACanvas for Spring 2023: January 18, 2023

Update Your UVACanvas Profile Preferred Name

• You can change your preferred name at any time using the UVA Identity and Access Management (IAM) Portal (log in & use the "Profile" tab). Changes will be reflected in your UVACanvas profile.
  • See Update My Personal & Work Info to learn more about preferred names.
• This is not directly editable within UVACanvas; changes must be made in the IAM Portal.

Retiring Integrated Tools

The tools below, though still available in UVACollab, are retiring and will not be available in UVACanvas:

• NowComment
• MATLAB Grader

Waitlisted Students

Waitlisted students are automatically added to every course. Instructors have the option to remove their waitlist rosters by emailing the LTS Team at [email protected] with the name of the associated course.

New Roles & Permissions in UVACanvas

Instructors have the option to manually add new course-level user roles to their UVACanvas course sites: 

• Teacher (referred to as "Instructor" in UVACollab): Can now manually add participants to course sites in all roles (Teacher; TA; Student; Librarian; etc.)
• Librarian: Can be added to course sites to assist with content and research.
